|Cosmic inflation, a period of accelerated expansion in the very early universe, has now become an integrated part of the standard cosmology. Inflation provides a mechanism to generate spacetime inhomogeneities, the so-called curvature
perturbation, which seeds all the inhomogeneous structures in the universe, from living creatures to the large scale structure of the universe. However, the physics of inflation is only little understood yet. To understand it better, it is crucially important to make accurate theoretical predictions about the properties of such spacetime inhomogeneities generated from inflation. The delta N formalism is a powerful tool to compute the curvature perturbation from inflation. In this series of lectures, I will review the delta N formalism and discuss a few examples of its application.
