Leaders of Junior Research Group

(JRG) 2024

 

The Asia Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics (APCTP) has openings for several positions as Leaders of the Junior Research Group (JRG) in the fields of theoretical physics including Particle and Fields, Astrophysics/Cosmology, Condensed Matter Theory, and Statistical/Biophysics. The APCTP (https://www.apctp.org) is an international center founded in 1996 with the first president, Professor C. N. Yang with a goal of achieving world-leading research in theoretical physics. Currently, the center consists of 18 member countries and serves as a hub center of the Asia Pacific region in the field of theoretical physics through various academic activities.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

JRG Leader (APCTP Assistant Professor) position aims to strengthen the in-house research capacity of the Center by forming independent research groups called JRG. We encourage applications in the area of theoretical physics in Condensed Matter Physics, Astrophysics/Cosmology, Particle and Fields, String theory, and Statistical/Biophysics. The applicant eligible for a JRG leader should :

1. Hold a Ph.D. degree obtained within the last 7 years and
2. Be under the age of 40.

 

Experience performing research in related fields/topics is also required. Current JRGs at the Center can be found at the following link (https://www.apctp.org/theme/d/html/research/01.php). Each JRG leader will be based in Pohang, Korea where the APCTP is located, and is expected to build and lead their own  research group with full academic independence guaranteed. Leaders are also expected to foster collaborations and leverage our network with our Partner Institutes and Member Institutes in the Asia Pacific region and beyond.

 

REMUNERATION

• An annual gross salary starting from KRW 70,000,000 up to KRW 90,000,000
• Rent-free housing (contingent on the contract period).
• Research grant of KRW 100,000,000 ~ KRW 130,000,000 per year, which can be used for hiring postdoctoral fellows and covering other research activities.
• The position is initially offered for three years, renewable up to two additional years depending on the research performance.
• The JRG leader will also be appointed as an Affiliated Assistant Professor at the POSTECH Physics Department.
