Greetings

2008년 Peter Fulde 3, 4대 소장의 주도 하 독일 막스플랑크 연구소의 투자유치 지원 및 3자 협약(아 태·독일 막스플랑크·포스텍)에 의해 출범 및 운영되는 기초과학(이론물리) 공동 연구 프로그램입니다. 연구성과 및 업적이 유망한 신진연구자 (만 40세 이하 또는 박사 후 7년 이내의 조교수급 연구자)인 그룹장이 연구에 대한 독립적 권한을 갖고 이론물리 전 분야를 대상으로 하는 그룹원을 구성하여 세계 적 수준의 창의·독창적인 연구활동을 수행하며, 센터 회원국 및 호스트 기관인 포스텍 등 유관기관과의 협력 네트워크 구축으로 연구역량을 강화하고 이론물리학 분야의 차세대 글로벌 리더로 육성 시키고자 합니다.

With the support of Max Planck Institute, Germany, and through a tripartite agreement between APCTP, Max Plank Institute-Germany, and POSTECH, our former president Peter Fulde launched a basic science (theoretical physics) joint research program, called Junior Research Group (JRG) in 2008. This program was created to grant complete research autonomy to capable mid-career physicists in their thirties (an assistant professor level researcher with equal to or less than seven years of post-doctoral research experience) and to study not only one but many areas of theoretical physics. Junior Research Group has carried out research in various areas including Particle Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Statistical/Bio Physics, Manybody Physics, Astrophysics, and so forth. The center fully supports and funds these researchers to pursue their inspirational ideas and individual project in the various areas of theoretical physics and to grow as a distinguished researcher. JRG leaders organize their own independent research groups, build a network through collaboration with partner institutes, member countries and regions, and assemble a diversity of scientific activities; ultimately, becoming the future global leaders of theoretical physics.

아시아 태평양 지역의 젊은 과학자 양성 및 과학기술 기반의 국제협력 촉진 등 글로벌 협력 중심 연구자 선발 연구·연수 지원을 위해 2003년 발족된 프로그램입니다. (2014년 APEC PPSTI 공식 인준) 센터 회원국·협정기관 중심의 저개발국가 및 APEC, ASEAN 등 아태 권역과의 국제공동연구 다변화뿐만 아니라 전세계의 젊고 유망한 연구자에게 안정적 연구 기회를 제공하고 국내외 연구학술 커뮤니티와의 적극적 공동연구 수행을 통해 기초과학분야 차세대 인재양성 및 신진연구그룹과의 공동연구를 통한 역량 강화를 목표로 하고 있습니다.

Young Scientist Training Program has been founded in 2003 (approved by APEC PPSTI in 2014) to cultivate promising young physicists in the Asia Pacific region, and to advance science based international cooperation. The institute nurtures starting scientists globally to become the future experts of basic science by providing a scientifically stimulating environment and a platform for collaboration with domestic and international research institutes and academies. In doing so, we will not only strengthen our researchers’ capacities, but also promote international joint research and science development in underdeveloped countries, APEC, ASEAN, and the Asia Pacific Area.

역동적인 연구 생태계를 더욱 풍성하게 조성하고자 전도유망한 신진 과학자, 세계적인 석학, 그리고 센터를 거쳐 간 우수한 전임 연구원들을 ‘어소시에이트 펠로우(Associate Fellow)’로 임명 및 초청하여, 이들의 방문과 다양한 연구 활동을 전폭적으로 지원하고 있습니다. 본 프로그램은 센터에 상주하는 연구원들과 긴밀히 협력하여 공동 연구를 수행할 뿐만 아니라, 깊이 있는 학술 네트워크를 세계적으로 확장하고 수준 높은 학술 행사를 함께 개최함으로써 지속 가능한 연구 협력 체계를 구축할 수 있는 기회를 제공합니다.

To further enrich our vibrant research ecosystem, APCTP appoints and invites promising young scientists, world-renowned scholars, and distinguished former APCTP researchers as Associate Fellows, fully supporting their visits and diverse research activities. This program provides invaluable opportunities not only to conduct collaborative research in close partnership with resident APCTP researchers but also to expand scholarly networks globally, hold high-level academic events together, and build a sustainable framework for long-term research cooperation.
