    Complexity, Dynamics & Disorder Group

    Group Introduction

    We are interested in the computational study of many-body, dynamical, and complex systems, at the interface between theoretical physics and applied mathematics. Our group aims at uncovering structure in these systems by using simulations, introducing new computational measurement methods, and using analytical theory when possible. Concretely, some current research directions include the measurement of configurational entropies and entropy production in non-equilibrium many-body systems, e.g. robotic assemblies, the characterization of long-range order in disordered systems like granular packings, and the design of disordered photonic materials.

    Leader

    • Prof. Mathias Casiulis received an M.Eng. from ESPCI Paris in 2015 and an M.Sc. from École Normale Supérieure (ENS Paris) in 2016, followed by a PhD from Sorbonne Université (\"Jussieu\") in 2019. They then worked as a postdoc within the theory team at the Department of Physics at the Technion between 2020 and 2022, and as a research scientist at the Center for Soft Matter Research (CSMR) at New York University (NYU) from 2022 to 2026. In 2026, they joined APCTP as a Junior Research Group Leader. Beyond research, Mathias received various prizes recognizing outstanding outreach (e.g., APS-DFD Milton van Dyke prizes, APS-DSOFT Gallery of Soft Matter Prize) and service (e.g., APS Reviewer Excellence Award).
